The plant you have grown of your own thyme seeds of buzzy seeds, you can use it both as medical plant (tea, syrup) and in the kitchen for seasoning fat dishes. (meat), tomato and potato salads, cottage cheese.
Thyme is a seasoning in the kitchen and has strong medicinal benefits. Besides the original thyme, there is also Lemon thyme. Unfortunately, we do not have this in our range, in our webshop we sell the regular thyme seeds from the brand 'Buzzy Seeds' and 'de Bolster'.
Thyme uses in the kitchen
In the kitchen, thyme is an ideal combination with bay leaf and parsley. Stews, game dishes, pastas, vegetarian dishes, spaghetti sauce, thyme goes well with them. The herb can be cooked. Thyme is also used in marinades, dishes with wine and in pickling olives. Its antiseptic and anti-bacterial effects make thyme essential in homeopathy. The herb also helps with digestive problems, lack of appetite, insomnia, depression or migraines. Respiratory problems, flu, bronchitis and persistent cough, can be relieved with thyme-based syrup.
Sowing instructions
Thyme blooms from May to October and in summer it provides a good nutritional base for bees. Thyme requires a sunny, dry spot with preferably calcareous soil. It is best to transplant thyme every two to three years, this way it keeps its strong aroma. The herb is easy to sow, but it takes a few years to grow a mature plant.
