Organic:
Sowing instructions
Professional cultivationDe Bolster pumpkins are developed for organic arable farming. Our slender types are remarkably uniform in size and storability. This plant type has the ability to quickly densify the plot, suppressing weeds. Our 'bush' types are particularly productive and allow for longer mechanical weed control.
Sowing
Sow pumpkin seeds on the firm, moist soil layer. This is usually at a depth of 3-5 cm. For optimal germination, it is important that the soil at sowing depth has a temperature of at least 18°C at the time of sowing and the following week. Too cold or too wet soil slows down the germination process, allowing fungi and bacteria to attack the germinating seeds. Above 22°C, germination is very fast, so these plant pathogens have less chance to strike.
Harvesting and storage
As soon as the fruit stalk starts to cork and the leaves start to die, the fruits are ready for harvesting. For best storability, it is advisable to harvest the fruits as soon as possible after the first signs of ripening to avoid possible sunburn damage. After harvest, the fruits are best stored at a temperature between 8°C and 12°C. It is important to keep the pumpkins, during storage, well ventilated.
